Chemical peel

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE

About the procedure

Chemical peel is a medical procedure that uses a solution of certain acids to remove the damaged outer part of the skin with the aim of regenerating the skin and creating new tissue. It reduces and potentially eliminates a wide range of skin conditions and improves the overall condition and appearance of the skin. Depending on individual needs, chemical peel can be superficial (treating the surface layer of the skin), medium-deep (treating the surface and middle part of the skin), or deep (treating the deeper layers of the skin).

 Application areas:

• Face
• Neck
• Hands

Effects of therapy:

Chemical peel stimulates the regeneration and renewal of the skin and its main effects include:
• Alleviation of the effects of skin photoaging (skin roughness, sun spots, wrinkles)
• Alleviation of fine lines and wrinkles caused by skin aging and genetics
• Alleviation of acne scars
• Improving the complexion (effect on dyschromias and spots)
• Improving the appearance of the skin (gives the skin a smooth texture, makes it healthier and brighter and leaves it refreshed)

Candidates for chemical peel:

Chemical peels are recommended for people with certain skin conditions to improve skin tone and texture. The doctor determines the type and depth of the peel according to the individual needs of each patient. The wide range of different substances ensures that there are no restrictions based on the skin type.

Duration of therapy:

Depending on the needs of each person’s skin, an appropriate number of treatments is recommended in order to achieve and maintain the desired results. Although the number of treatments varies according to the condition of the skin being treated, usually 2 to 5 treatments are used for optimal results. The therapy is best done in the period from mid-autumn to early spring, when the sun is less strong.

Duration of treatment:

Depending on the needs of each patient and the type of peel used, each treatment can last from a few to 30 minutes. Afterwards the person can return directly to their activities, but in the following period it is necessary to take care not to expose themselves to the sun. After the procedure, Dr Konstantinos gives his patients all the necessary information in written form about what they should pay attention to, what to avoid and what to do in order for the therapy to have an optimal effect.

Side effects:

Depending on the type of chemical peel, the healing process may involve redness, burning, and peeling of the skin, which usually resolves within 5 to 10 days. In addition, permanent side effects such as darkening or lightening of the skin color and the formation of scars are possible and are usually caused by exposure to the sun and inadequate care after the treatment.

Combining with other therapies:

For additional results, chemical peel can be combined with other procedures, and in this case it is best to determine a long-term therapy strategy with a treatment plan and schedule.
