Hyperhidrosis

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE

About the procedure

Hyperhidrosis is a condition of excessive sweating in certain parts of the body that affects an average of 3 out of 100 people. Botox has long been a proven safe and effective solution to combat this condition. Aa a local anesthetic is used, the treatment is painless and allows you to return to daily activities and personal and social contacts with renewed confidence, without the stress of excessive sweating.

Application areas:

• Palms
• Armpits
• The soles of the feet
For each region, 50 or more Botox units are needed on each side.

Effects of therapy:

Excessive sweating significantly affects the quality of life, as it makes difficult simple movements such as turning a doorknob or steering a car. Therefore it often leads to forced changes in daily habits (choosing certain clothes and fabrics, avoiding handling). Botox as a neurotoxin (botulinum toxin type A) has the ability to temporarily block the chemical nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands in the area being treated. As the sweat glands do not receive chemical signals, excessive sweating is brought under control without affecting the body’s normal sweating, as the body has many other sweat glands that regulate temperature.

Candidates for Botox therapy:

Some of the symptoms you should pay attention to in order to recognize hyperhidrosis as a primary disease are:
• excessive sweating that occurs for at least six months without an obvious cause
• sweat that is secreted on both sides of the body in an almost equal amount
• episodes of excessive sweating that occur at least once a week
• sweat that makes daily activities and contacts difficult (at work or in personal relationships)
• sweating does not occur during sleep
• there is a family history of hyperhidrosis

Duration of therapy:

Botox treatment prevents unwanted hyperhidrosis symptoms for 6 to 9 months, while in some cases its effect can last up to a year. Taking this into account, it is best to determine a long-term maintenance strategy, in order to create a treatment plan and schedule so that the results are always optimal.

Duration of treatment:

A single treatment lasts approximately 20 minutes, and after the session you can immediately return to your daily activities. You should avoid touching, rubbing or massaging the treatment area, as well as exposure to heat (sun, bath, sauna…) for the next 4-6 hours and avoid physical activities for the next 24 hours. After the procedure, Dr Konstantinos gives his patients all the necessary information in written form about what they should pay attention to, what to avoid and what to do in order for the therapy to have an optimal effect.

Side effects:

When the therapy is administered by an experienced physician with certified materials, no side effects occur, except for mild irritation or swelling of the area for a few hours after the treatment. When treating palmar hyperhidrosis, there is a slight possibility of mild weakness in the fingers or hand muscles, but this is short-lived and nothing to worry about.
